Price:

The suggested “price” that you look for in exchange for a donation will be very country specific. In Ireland the Irish Cancer Society have a €3 price displayed on their Daffodil Day buckets which seems a reasonable amount to ask for. In different countries and different currencies you will have to decide on what the best “price” to ask for is. We would encourage you to make a decision on this for each country or at least every city.

As an aside, in charity parlance what you are doing in offering a “value exchange”

Something we should chat about.

Finance:

For licensing our Intellectual Property and providing support we look for 00.5% of the amount you collect or 5,000 for every 1,000,000 collected which is a fraction of the amount charged by credit and bank cards processing. For the avoidance of doubt this is only after the collection has taken place.

In return we ask that you be honest with us and remit the amount in a timely manner. We will ask for the amount you have collected for publicity for everyone participating.

Social Media:

Originally we planned to really push things on Social Media but we are starting from zero followers and supporting you would make much better sense. We encourage you to follow our accounts and share our posts. We will also share as many of your posts as we can we encourage you to share posts from other accounts. We’ll put up links here in good time.

Publicity:

We would encourage you to build a deep relationship with your local media and Breakfast TV offers a very good avenue, but not the only one, for this to build awareness of the collection and Stroke, Brain Injury and Brain Tumours.

We would also encourage you to lean into sports and particularly contact sports whose organisers look to deal with concussions.

Select different spokespeople to talk with the media mainly in general terms rather than about a specific charity.

Advertising:

We have a couple of ideas for media campaigns which we could like to discuss with you.

A very big tent:

There seems to be huge levels of overlap between charities, some only concentrate in the Brain Injury / Brain Tumour space, for others it is only an aspect of their work. We would encourage everybody into the tent.

Organise Locally:

There may be a number of charities looking to raise funds in a particular geographic area so organisation will be required in dividing out locations and the scheduling in particularly busy locations. This should be done early to ensure permissions and licenses can be obtained.

Don’t forget you don’t have to tie yourself to one location. You could, for instance, collect outside a sporting event or religious service for a few hours.

Post Collection:

There will be a large body of work after the collection in processing, accounting, reporting and debriefing.

Have a plan for what the funds will be used for. If you have something donors can buy into you should raise more funds.

Emails:

One of the things that we are really good at is writing interesting and engaging emails so please register here. We won’t write you more than once a month unless there is something really important to tell you. You can always unsubscribe if it doesn’t work for you. Insert link to Landing page.

Permissions and Licenses:

Apply for relevant licenses for street collections well ahead of time. Get permission from private locations such as malls and stations well ahead of time. If you can’t get permission from a landlord you can collect on the street outside the venue subject to getting a license.

Where to get volunteers:

It is shocking the amount of people that suffer a brain injury each year and when you multiply this by their friends and relations you get a very large number. It is also the start of the college year so medical and nursing students might be interested if asked as well as medical and nursing practitioners.

Flags:

Flags are controversial in some parts of the world and while they may not be in yours they may be in others so on the whole we see every reason to avoid pompoms as flags. Use the colours randomly as a means to extend the fundraiser to other days.

Extending the fundraiser:

The fundraiser can be extended into other events like National days and sporting events where random national colours or team colours can be sold. We’ll need to work to get these made specifically for you so there will be a lead time.

Again something to chat about.

Health: So I am just out of chemotherapy for a few months and am getting an MRI every 3 months which have so far been clear. Should the lymphoma re-emerge I will need to make a decision of what is best for me.
